Marine Bio-Lab for Fishery Quality Control
The Marine Bio-Laboratory for Fishery Quality Control is one of the key facilities within the General Authority for Fisheries in the Arabian Sea.
It is responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safety and quality of marine and fishery products, whether destined for local consumption or international export.
The laboratory operates in accordance with Yemeni and international quality standards, applying the principles of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system to guarantee the highest levels of food safety and product integrity.
Laboratory Functions
The laboratory performs a range of technical and regulatory tasks aimed at maintaining the quality and safety of fishery products, including:
- Analyzing fish and seafood samples to detect chemical, biological, and microbial contaminants.
- Conducting specialized tests to identify residues of pesticides, heavy metals, and organic pollutants.
- Verifying the freshness, nutritional quality, and compliance of products with approved standards.
- Monitoring the processing, storage, transport, and export stages to ensure adherence to international quality controls.
- Issuing technical reports and recommendations to support safe and sustainable fishery production.
Certificates Issued by the Laboratory
The Marine Bio-Lab is authorized to issue several official certificates recognized by international import authorities, including:
- Health Certificate:
Issued after confirming that the fishery products have been caught, processed, and stored in clean, non-radioactive waters and are free from biological or chemical pollution.
This certificate ensures compliance with international food safety standards and accompanies every export shipment. - Quality Inspection Report:
Granted after laboratory testing of product samples to ensure they are free from diseases, parasites, and unauthorized additives. - Compliance Certificates for Export Standards:
Issued to verify conformity with the requirements of importing countries, such as the European Union, Malaysia, Japan, and other markets, which apply strict food safety protocols.
